Where God boils his yam, is exactly where the devil roasts his fish
I love the wisdom of Africa, I really do! This proverb immediately reminded of a passage in the bible.
Job 2 verse 1 - 2 (NIV): On another day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them to present himself before him. (2) And the Lord said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the Lord, "From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it".
The devil bringing fish next to God's yam could be interpreted as the following:
* be carful of the person/s that may seem to want to complete or compliment you.
* concentrate on the giver, and much less on the gift.
* get your own fish, no handouts
* who is next to you, question their presence?
So the moral of the proverb is, enemies are always close next to you, just as Judas was close to Jesus. Therefore do not be aware, do not be bamboozled by gifts alone.
