"You do not verify from your mother the authenticity of what your grandmother has told you."
This proverb reminds one to be respectful!
In Africa and amongst Africans, respect is paramount and must be given, especially to our elders. It must be given irrespective of educational background, status, or wealth. it is a way of life.
There is a hierarchy to acknowledge when one gives respect. One must know where wisdom flows from or emanates from, and therefore apportion respect accordingly. There is an order which must be observed and understood. And if you are wise, you will choose to drink from the source.
Even if their words may not sound like wisdom at the time, there is still a respect that must be given. There is a way of handling words received, with respect. Being able to listen without audibly challenging words coming from our elders is seen as a sign of respect.
Africa=respect for the elders=long life
